If you are in the market for a new 4G smartphone, the big question is whether it supports soon to be launched Jio’s 4G network. As Jio has a state of the art IP network which doesn’t support traditional voice calling technologies, VoLTE is the default option for a voice call. However, not all 4G smartphones support this advanced technology and have to use Jio Join App for making voice calls on Jio 4G network.

Jio is calling VoLTE smartphones as ‘True 4G‘ devices and has published the latest list of 4G smartphones supporting VoLTE technology. As per Jio, currently, there are over 138 4G smartphones in India supporting VoLTE technology. Jio has also listed support for Video calling for these devices and out of 138 devices 85 devices support Video calling on Jio 4G.
Apart from these devices, most recently launched smartphones like Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime come with VoLTE technology. While Jio Join App acts as a suitable replacement for VoLTE, it cannot match the voice quality or performance offered by VoLTE technology.
However, there are still many devices especially 4G smartphones from last year which lack VoLTE even though their hardware supports it. With Jio nearing its launch, Oneplus and Xiaomi forums are now flooded with VoLTE update request for their previous generation devices.
