Idea Cellular Comes Forward With Rs 499 Prepaid Plan Offering 164GB Data for 82 Days

Idea Cellular has introduced yet another prepaid plan of Rs 499 in-line with Bharti Airtel. Under the newly introduced prepaid plan, the third-largest telecom operator is providing a whopping 164GB of 2G/3G/4G data, converting to a total of 2GB data per day for a period of 82 days. Alongside the data benefit, Idea is also providing unlimited voice calls and SMS benefit with the plan. This plan from Idea is valid across various circles and can be recharged through the company’s website or any other recharge portal. This new plan is part of Idea’s Unlimited Recharge portfolio, which was introduced to take on Reliance Jio’s unlimited combo plans.

The Rs 499 plan of Idea Cellular gives 2GB of 4G/3G/2G data per day, post which data charges of 4 paise per 10KB will be applicable. It also comes with unlimited voice calling benefit. Customers using more than 250 outgoing minutes in a day will be charged at 1 paise per second for the rest of the day. Also, for customers using more than 1000 minutes in a period of seven days will be charged at 1 paise per second for the rest of seven day period. Also, customers can make outgoing voice calls to only 100 unique numbers in any period of seven consecutive days, after that the charges of 1 paise per second will be applicable for the rest of validity of recharge.

Furthermore, free roaming benefit can be availed in national roaming only on Idea network, not on other networks. SMS benefits for this plan include 100 SMS per day and after that, Idea will charge Re 1 or Re 1.5 for local and national SMS.

For the unaware, the Rs 499 prepaid plan was first introduced by Bharti Airtel last month with similar benefits on offer. But Airtel is offering truly unlimited data and voice calls. For example, users will get 128 Kbps of after FUP speed post the consumption of 2GB daily benefit, while the voice calls don’t come with any limit of 250 minutes per week. Airtel’s Rs 499 prepaid plan is an open market one, but it seems like Idea Cellular’s Rs 499 is limited to only a few circles at the moment.

With this plan, Idea Cellular brings down the value of per GB to Rs 3.04, which is not the lowest in the industry, but it’s on-par with rival telecom operators. Idea Cellular is yet to introduce the Rs 558 tariff plan which Airtel introduced yesterday.

I don’t know what is wrong with !dea Cellular. They don’t even have worthy plans with them. I couldn’t find any of the unlimited plans on par with Competitors. There is no accurate information on iReff and their Website is a complete mess. PayTM & FreeCharge also say a different story. I don’t know what the hell is going on in their on of the Leadership Circle. Any fellow !dea user from UP (West). What are the Unlimited Plans that you subscribe?

@Priyansh I think Idea has decided to not play the “race to the bottom” pricing game. They are matching some data/talk plans, but not all the ones offered by AirTel/Jio. Good for them – at the risk of losing a few subscribers – as they are already in huge loss.

After merger ,customers will throw their sim and will shift to Jio/Airtel!!!!!This will lead to better experience as their coverage will be unmatched in 4G!!!!!Their main target this year to buy more spectrum in band 41 and deploy it before the end of the year!!!!!

Monki, is it viable for them in the Long Run? If yes it’s OK but if no then who is at more loss. Though pricing low should be the most important factor to choose a TSP but its quality should be the appropriate base. Par India mein aisa hota kahan hain..

If after merger Subscribers move out to Jio/Airtel, it’s good for Vodafone-Idea!!!!! Already their service is very good so far here!!!!!

I hope Idea-Vodafone buys remaining band 41 spectrum and deploy it before merger of actual network(I mean to say before getting one network)!!!!!If they do this they will be super fine till 2020!!!!!

Far better than Airtel atleast!!!! I guess Airtel won’t improve even in 2022!!!!!They need to shut off 2G as early as possible to regain losses!!!!!They can’t shut off 3G as Tata DOCOMO users are latches on to it and heavily choked the network here!!!!!Airtel 4G is worst network from all over the world !!!!!It’s just don’t stay at 4G at all!!!!!Hardly works!!!!!Coverage is poorer!!!!!Heavy call drops in Mumbai!!!!! jio is far better in Mumbai and constant 5Mbps speeds all over the Mumbai!!!!!

They come up with such plans only to follow it’s compititors…so that they don’t get lost to rivals. Otherwise they are always looking for looting it’s customers.
