DoT ask Telecom Operators To Submit Compliance Report For Tracking Location Of Subscribers

Department of Telecom has asked all telecom operators to submit compliance report with respect to accuracies achieved so far by operators, which can be used as input for deciding the methodology of measurement and for preparing roadmap for implementation of the accuracies .

The note also says that the except Tata Tele services the Compliance report has not be submitted by any of the operators. In 2011 Govt asked all operators to provide location details of users as part of call data records. But every time when ever DOT ask for compliance report none of the operator has submitted the details so far.

It is high time India implements it. US already implemented it years ago. So they can track criminals and save victims using 911 helpline.

1. Verizon Wireless (CDMA) is USA largest operator. Followed by AT&T then Sprint Corporation and 4th T-Mobile.
2. AT&T is not Gov company. It is owned by Institutions & Mutual funds through stock exchange.
3. There are 14 mobile companies + many MVN operators in US.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) required 95% of a network operator’s in-service phones must be E911 compliant (“location capable”) by December 31, 2005. (Several carriers missed this deadline, and were fined by the FCC)
