DoT to Analyse Trai Report and Take Call on More 5G Spectrum Auction

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has stated that it will take the call on next auction of 5G spectrum identified by a high-level committee after analysing recommendations made by sector regulator Trai. “Trai has just made recommendations. We are looking in to it,” Telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan told PTI. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), a couple of days ago, recommended the auction of about 8,644 MHz of telecom frequencies at an estimated total base price of Rs 4.9 lakh crore, which also includes radio waves for 5G services.

When asked if DoT will seek reference from the Trai on various bands identified by high level committee on 5G, she said: “We will analyse Trai recommendations first. Then see if there is a need and appetite for more spectrum in the industry after which a decision will be taken. It will be very premature to comment”.

The 5G committee of the telecom ministry has said about 6,000 Mhz of spectrum can be made available without delay for the next generation mobile service.

The panel has spotted spectrum for 5G service across 11 bands of which four bands premium 700 Mhz band, 3.5 gigahertz (Ghz), 24 Ghz and 28 Ghz band can be made immediately available for the service.

Out of the bands identified for 5G services, Trai has given its recommendation of 700 Mhz and 3.5 gigahertz band.

Besides, the panel has recommended that the government should identify spectrum for 5G services in 600 Mhz, 1.4 Ghz, 30 Ghz, 31 Ghz and 37 Ghz band while exploring the feasibility of 5G spectrum for the service in 500 Mhz and 3.7 Ghz bands.

Chakri is a go-to guy for your next smartphone recommendation. Back in his engineering days, he used to play with smartphones by installing custom ROMs and that passion got him into the tech industry. He still goes nuts about a smartphone knocking his door for review. Currently managing everything at Telecom Talk, Chakri is trying to master PUBG Mobile in his free time.

Activating IR (International Roaming) PAYG facility on jio prepaid is really frustrating. In CC they told that even if I don’t go to the countries that are covered in the Rs.575 pack, the IR PAYG facility will get activated for all the countries.via SIM update 4 hours after the recharge of Rs.575. But I have done Rs.575 on 01st August 2018. Now only SIM refresh happened. But I still have doubt whether the jio SIM will work abroad. See the attached file. I got this option via automatic SIM refresh method from the nwtwork side. Do anyone know about IR… Read more »

Expect only big operators to get 4G 5G spectrum. Airtel will buy for sure, BSNL MTNL being government funded operators will get both spectrum at market price fair enough. Jio is the surprise here it will buy 700, 3500 for sure. May or may not get other bands.

Vodafone sold to idea.
Idea can’t buy new spectrum as they are poor operator, they are busy with closing there towers n offices.

Overall Big 3 Operators Airtel, Bsnl Jio should go for 5G spectrum as they buy this year then only it will be commercially ready by 2019-2020.
