
A few days earlier, a fire broke out at the BSNL office at Anna Salai. This damaged the critical telecom infrastructure of the company in the area, and has resulted in services being crippled. This includes essential services such as phone calling, and internet. There are large parts of the city where the network connectivity has not yet been restored. It has affected the citizes, along with the government organisations who use BSNL as their telecom service provider (TSP).

On December 20, 2025, BSNL's office at Anna Salai was engulfed in flames. The fire broke out on the second floor of the seven storey building. What's worth noting here is that this is the building where the main telecom circuits of the company are housed for the region. Due to this, the connectivity services from the company have been hampered and key emergency numbers such as 100 and 108 can't also be connected.

During emergencies, the most important thing for the citizens is being able to communicate. That is what was lost in this scenario, raising many concerns. Customers are unclear about whom they can approach to complain or get a resolution from. The restoration of services will likely take time, and until then, BSNL customers will be cut off from connectivity.
