Bharti Airtel recently announced that it is implementing its AI (artificial intelligence) powered solution on its mobile networks to reduce spam and fraud communications. Airtel's CEO and MD, Gopal Vittal, wrote a letter to the customers of the telco explaining what the solution is and how it works. In his letter, Vittal said that nearly all of the cyber frauds begin with a simple phone call or SMS. Thus, Airtel has taken the first step to counter this and safeguard its customers.

What has Airtel Done Here?

Vittal explained that they have been working on their network intelligence solution for the last six months. Over this period, Airtel was analysing the call patterns to accurately identify spammers on the networks. The list of spam numbers will only grow with time as more numbers are identified as malicious.

Once Airtel's solutions identify a number as spam, then it will automatically receive a "suspected spam" alert when a user receives a call from that number.

"Our new solution makes us India's 1st Spam Fighting Network and we hope you will feel more confident and secure every time you receive that spam call or message," said Vittal. It is worth noting that following Airtel's announcement, BSNL said that it is also working on a similar solution to reduce spam.

The best thing about this solution is that the customer doesn't need to do anything extra. The user doesn't have to pay anything or download any other app. Also note that this solution will only work for VoLTE enabled smartphones.

"Our aim is to make these alerts a natural part of your mobile experience, so that each time you receive a call or SMS, you remain vigilant for the "Suspected Spam" indicator," concluded Vittal.
