Bharti Airtel Ties up with IRCTC For Rail Ticket Bookings through ‘airtel Money’

India’s largest mobile service provider Bharti Airtel today announced that it has partnered with IRCTC – Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation to offer rail ticket bookings through airtel Money.

IRCTC mobile ticket bookings through “airtel Money” service works across all mobile devices (basic phone to smartphones), does not involve any mobile Internet / data or SMS charges. It uses a simple USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) technology that prompts users with interactive and guided menu options towards booking tickets.

Airtel mobile customers can self register for airtel money Express Account by dialling *400# from their mobile phones or sign up for the service by walking into any of the 15,000 plus airtel money outlets across the top 300 plus cities of India and submitting the required KYC documents.

Simple Steps to Book Rail Tickets through airtel Money account :

  • Dial *400# from your airtel mobile
  • Select “Book Tickets” and then “Rail booking”
  • Choose Reservation ( if you wish to search trains & choose) or Easybook ( if you know the train number)
    Follow the instructions in the menu.

Note : Only airtel money subscribers with a registered IRCTC user ID can access the ticket booking menu. IRCTC services on airtel money are not available between 08.00 Hrs-1200 Hrs & 23.30-00.30 Hrs in line with Railway rules.

With this service you can also use other features like Information services ( PNR enquiry , Train Search etc), Cancellation and My account (IRCTC).

This and the railway ticket booking by SMS is a waste facility.

The major disadvantage :

> You cannot give your choice of berth (lower, middle, upper, side lower and side upper) or seat (window seat) when booking your ticket through this method.

> There is no choice of food if we book ticket in duronto, rajdhani or shatabdi trains). How will you give food option (veg or non veg)?.

This is totally a FLOP IDEA.

Try *139# on airtel. Apart from PNR it also provide info about seat availability, train running status, timetable and fare enquiry. That too without internet (as its USSD). It doesn’t even cost any buck for this service. I found it quite amazing and revolutionary. Any other operator supporting *139# ?
