India's largest mobile service provider, Bharti Airtel, has increased 2G data rates by reducing free 2G Data usage and validity in all popular prepaid data packs, similar to its closest rivals, Vodafone India.

Airtel 2G data

Starting from Karnataka circle, Airtel has been cutting down on data freebies to its customers, has increased the price of its 1GB 2G data plan for prepaid users by 25% approx, and Airtel 2G prepaid customers will now have to pay Rs.155 for 1GB of data, which was Rs.125 earlier.

While with the existing Rs.125 prepaid Pack,  customers will get just 625MB 2G data valid for 25 days, earlier this pack was offering 1GB 2G data for 30 days.

According to Airtel website,  as of now 2G Data rates revised in Karnataka circle only.  We can expect the similar changes also happens for other circles too (as operator has done in December, 2013) however its not confirmed.  So we advise that those are regular users of  Airtel 2G Internet packs, must call to customer care, or enquire about the all new changes in current GPRS / 2G GPRS Packs before making a recharge.

After Airtel and Vodafone it is being expected that Idea Cellular might also soon revise it’s data plans but there has been no official word on it as of now.

Update : Bharti Airtel's official statement on 'Increased 2G Data Tariff' : While there is no change in our 3G data prices and pay-as-you-go 2G/GPRS data rates, the benefits offered in some 2G data packs have been revised in Karnataka. These packs offer better value than pay-as-you-go rates and are revisited from time to time."          - Airtel Spokesperson
