Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, has reported recording around 5.70 crore spam calls in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circle. Airtel said that this data is for just 12 days. Airtel also said that within this time frame, 13 lakh spam messages were also detected on its networks.
The numbers shared by the operator for other regions also showcase just how big of a problem spam calls in India. Airtel's AI solution identifies spam calls in real-time and alerts to customers as they receive the call.

Ritesh Agrawal, Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh, CEO, of Bharti Airtel, said that this solution works with an accuracy of 97%. As per him, 60% of their customers receive three or more spam calls every day while 90% of customers receive some or the other spam SMSes.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is also pushing for stringent norms to regulat the telecom sector and make it safe for the consumers.
