Telesat Receives FCC Certification for Accelerated C-Band Relocation

Canadian satellite operator Telesat announced on Wednesday that its Phase 2 certification for accelerated C-band clearing activities in the 3.7 GHz band has been validated by the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

According to the official release, this order marks Telesat’s successful completion of all requirements for relocating customers from the 3700-3820 MHz band in the contiguous United States, as well as the necessary modifications to Earth station equipment.

Relocation Completed Ahead of Schedule

Telesat says it accomplished the Phase 2 relocation ahead of schedule, surpassing the December 2023 deadline by six months. As a result, the company is now eligible to receive its second accelerated relocation payment, totalling nearly USD 260 million, which is expected to be disbursed by October 2023. Telesat has already received Phase 1 clearing payments amounting to USD 84.8 million.

Accelerated Deployment of 5G Services

Telesat expressed pride in the team’s dedication and seamless transition of customers’ networks to ensure uninterrupted critical services. The company further emphasized that Telesat’s early spectrum clearance will expedite the deployment of 5G services across the United States.
