Asus Zenfone 5Z debuted in India in July as a OnePlus 6 contender. Now news has surfaced which reveals that the phone has received the latest firmware over the air (FOTA) update which has brought many new features onboard along with system level improvements. Some significant advances have also been brought to the camera software. This new FOTA update will also bring the June security patch on the Asus Zenfone 5Z. It is also worth noting that since the launch of the phone this is not the first update which Asus has pushed for the device. Another exciting thing is that only a few days back, Asus launched the 8GB and 256GB storage variant of the Asus Zenfone 5Z in India.
Asus has also issued a changelog for this update which reveals that now the camera app gets RAW file support. The new Panorama feature will help users in taking panoramic shots through the default Camera app. Now users will also have the option of enabling or disabling the EIS (electronic image stabilisation). Users will also be able to toggle the built-in LED flash in the Pro mode. The preset filters on the phone get upgraded to real-time filters.
Asus highlighted that there are many camera improvements which ship with this update. HDR, camera stability, auto exposure, photo sharpness, and autofocus functionality all have been enhanced. The slow-motion quality and file size for HD (720p) has also undergone improvement. The audio quality in the video has also been notched up to 192kbps bitrate.
The new update also improves Wi-Fi stability on the device alongside some bug fixes to improve the overall performance. Being a FOTA update, this new firmware is expected to show up on its own. However, users can check for it manually by heading over to Settings > System > System updates.
Asus ZenFone 5Z Specifications
The Asus Zenfone 5Z sports a 5.2-inch Full HD+ (1080x2246 pixels) Super IPS+ display along with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Powering the phone there is an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with Adreno 630 GPU for graphics and up to 8GB of RAM. The dual rear camera setup on the phone comprises of 12MP Sony IMX363 primary sensor along with a f/1.8 aperture lens and OIS support, and the secondary sensor is an 8MP OmniVision 8856 sensor along with a fixed-focus, f/2.2 aperture lens that has a 120-degree field of view. On the front also, the phone sports an 8MP sensor which enables Face Unlock on the device. On the software front, the phone runs ZenUI 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo.
The ZenFone 5Z comes with up to 256GB of onboard storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/ 5GHz), NFC, Bluetooth v5.0, FM radio, USB OTG, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The dimensions of the phone measure up to be 153x75.6x7.7mm. The handset also comes with almost all the important sensors including accelerometer, ambient light, electronic compass, fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and an RGB sensor. The battery on the device is a 3300mAh one, and it comes with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
