Idea Cellular has now rolled out the Idea VoLTE services in six major circles. Idea VoLTE services are now open for public in Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh. Idea Cellular 4G users across these circles will be able to use Idea VoLTE services starting from May 2, 2018. With this rollout, Idea joins the list of operators providing VoLTE services in the country. Before Idea, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India were the telcos with VoLTE on offer. Idea is also providing free 10GB of data for customers on making the first VoLTE call. Also, there are no additional charges for the Idea VoLTE calls, and the charges will be applicable as per the existing voice tariff.

As you might be aware of, the advantages of Idea VoLTE or using VoLTE service are HD call quality, faster call connection time, uninterrupted internet access during voice calls, and better battery utilisation.

In-line with what we have reported earlier, Idea Cellular's VoLTE services are now live across six major markets of the telco. Idea VoLTE delivers High Definition voice services over 4G/ LTE network which makes the voice sound more natural as compared to a standard voice call while eliminating background noise. It also offers faster call connection and better battery utilisation, said the telco.

Furthermore, Idea VoLTE enables users to automatically be routed to 3G/2G when they move out of 4G network using Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC), thus ensuring continuous call connectivity. Both Airtel and Vodafone are offering the same service since the launch of their VoLTE services. And yes, users will be able to call all mobile and landline networks using Idea’s VoLTE service.

Same as the case with other two top telcos Airtel and Vodafone, Idea VoLTE will be accessible on only a few 4G handsets at the moment, but a top official from the company stated that the company is partnering with several handset brands to ensure the Idea VoLTE support rollout on a wide range of VoLTE devices.

At the moment, the Idea VoLTE supported smartphones are Honor 6X, Honor 5C, Honor 7X, Honor View10, Honor 9 lite and Honor 9i handsets. The telco also revealed that Xiaomi Redmi 4, Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7, OnePlus 5 & 5T, Nokia 3 & Nokia 5 and Vivo V7 Plus would receive an OTA update with Idea VoLTE support very soon.

Idea Cellular stated that the free 10GB data on making the first VoLTE call would be credited to the user's account in 48 hours.
