BSNL has been enjoying a lot of success of late, thanks to the operator’s affordable tariff plans and aggressive marketing in rural areas. A senior official of BSNL in Kolkata state said that the telco has added 1.2 million subscribers via the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service in the financial year 2017-18. That’s a small number as private operators would be receiving a lot of MNP requests every month, according to the monthly subscription data released by Trai.

“BSNL’s revenue collection has been better than other network providers in the last fiscal, although a general trend of 10-20% decline in revenue collection has been observed in the mobile industry,” Chief General Manager of Calcutta Telephones S.P. Tripathi said to reporters at IANS.
“Across the country, 12 lakh customers have opted for portability from other networks to BSNL in the last financial year (2017-18),” Tripathi said.
Recently, BSNL confirmed that it added over four million new subscribers in March 2018 and a large number of Aircel subscribers joined BSNL network via MNP service.
Speaking about the MNP numbers revealed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) for January 2018 month, the telecom body received a total of 6.18 million requests, taking the overall MNP requests from the start to 344.59 million until January 2018. The MNP requests will only grow bigger in FY2018-19 Aircel’s 84 million subscribers are leaving the network to join other networks such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and BSNL.
