Bharti Airtel is quickly improving its Airtel TV application to catch up with rival operators in the content space. Airtel has added 150 Live TV channels to the Airtel TV app and increased the total channel count to 303. Currently, Reliance Jio and Vodafone India are the two operators offering over 300 Live TV channels on their respective platforms- JioTV and Vodafone Play.
When we reported back in June 2017, Airtel TV had just 35 Live TV channels on offer, and now, the application has over 300 Live TV channels. It looks like Airtel is working hard with content providers to get on board because it's actively increasing the channel count to match up the competition. The application now has 21 HD Live TV Channels, up from 10 HD channels we reported earlier.
When we posted an article comparing all the content services from operators, Airtel TV had 149 channels back then. And it was at the end of November 2017. Currently, Airtel offers content in 13 languages with Hindi being the leader in the list with most number of channels.
When compare Airtel TV with other services such as Vodafone Play, Reliance JioTV, and Idea Movies, it now has equal channels as Vodafone Play. Reliance JioTV still leads the list with over 550 channels, but the new entrant hasn't been able to add new channels at the same speed it used to add earlier.
Idea Movies & TV is last on the list with least number of channels, but Idea is also partnering with new content providers every now and then to increase the channel count. In fact, digital content has become a major affair in recent times. With increasing data offering from telecom operators with the tariff plans, consumers are watching more content on their smartphones itself.
