The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is a Much Needed Upgrade for the Redmi 4 and Redmi 3s Users

Xiaomi, a couple of days announced the much-anticipated budget smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus in China. The former might hit the Indian market in early 2018, maybe in January 2018 itself, who knows because Xiaomi has been aggressive in 2017 and launched as many as nine smartphones until now. And yes, 2017 is not yet done as we have another 22 days left in our kitty, which might well be enough for Xiaomi to launch a new smartphone in India.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will succeed India' second best selling smartphone of entire 2017, the Xiaomi Redmi 4. And boy, it has some huge shoes to fill as the Chinese company would have easily sold more than 6 million units of Redmi 4 until now. Expectations on the Redmi 5 are already sky-high, and Xiaomi satisfied one and all with the smartphone in China.

One question which remains a mystery is the Indian launch and pricing as of now. Well, if you're a user of the Xiaomi Redmi 4 or the Redmi 3s, here's why you should upgrade to the Redmi 5 when it launches in India.

That Bezel-Less Display

Last year, Xiaomi surprised one and all by launching a smartphone with absolutely no bezels (Mi Mix), which brought the bezel-less revolution to the industry. With the Redmi 5, Xiaomi is taking the same bezel-less display trend to the entry-level market.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is the company's cheapest smartphone to feature an 18:9 display. The smartphone sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display, along with improved brightness levels. The Redmi 4 has bezels on top and bottom, which makes it look like an outdated smartphone in 2018.

Hardware

One of the significant strengths of Xiaomi smartphones is the hardware. The Redmi 5 is powered by the energy-efficient Snapdragon 450 chipset, which is clubbed with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage.

The Redmi 4 houses a Snapdragon 435 chipset, while the Redmi 3s has even less powerful Snapdragon 430 SoC. The Snapdragon 450 SoC is not only built on top of the 14nm manufacturing process, but it's also one of the best chipsets out there on the market today. Smartphones such as Vivo V7+ and Vivo V7 are powered by the same Snapdragon 450 SoC, and they offer decent performance.

Better Cameras

The Redmi 5 rocks a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.25um pixel-size. Xiaomi says that the large pixel size will capture more light, and the device will deliver excellent images even in low-light conditions. The Redmi 5 also comes with several new camera modes to tweak the overall camera experience. Sadly, the front-facing camera did not receive any update, and it's still the same 5MP unit.

Comes With MIUI 9 Out of the Box

The Redmi 4 arrived with MIUI 8 out of the box in India, while the Redmi 5 comes with MIUI 9 out of the box, meaning there won't be an upgrade. If a company fails to optimise the new software to the phone, then you should probably skip the update and stay on the lower Android version.

Conclusion

The Redmi 5 is a massive upgrade to the Redmi 4 and Redmi 3s smartphone. They might sound like iterative upgrades, but there's a lot more in the Redmi 5. The bezel-less display, Snapdragon 450 SoC, improved cameras are the important upgrades on the Xiaomi Redmi 5.
