Xiaomi launches Redmi 4, Redmi 4 Prime, Redmi 4A: Price, Specifications, and More

Putting an end to a slew of rumors and reports, Xiaomi finally launched the Redmi 4 along with Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 Prime. The Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime are priced at CNY 699 (approx. Rs. 6,900) and CNY 899 (approx. Rs. 8,900) respectively. The Redmi 4A, on the other hand, will retail at CNY 499 (approx. Rs. 4,900). Xiaomi did not reveal a launch timeline for these devices in other regions outside China.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime are similar regarding design and a few specifications, but some of the specs vary. Both the phones come embodied by metal and feature fingerprint sensor and MIUI 8-based Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Both the phones differ in terms of processor, storage, and screen resolution.

The Redmi 4 features a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clubbed with Adreno 505 GPU. It comes with a 13MP rear camera coupled with dual-LED flash, PDAF, along with a 5MP front snapper. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. The phone supports connectivity options such as Hybrid dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, and GPS/ A-GPS. A 4100mAh of battery backs the device.

On the other hand, the Redmi 4 Prime features a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display. It is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It also sports a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, 5-lens, PDAF, along with a 5MP front camera. Being an enhanced variant, it comes with 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card) and supports connectivity options such as Hybrid dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, and GPS/ A-GPS. The phone comes equipped with 2GB of RAM and 4100mAh of a battery.

The most affordable phone among the devices launched at the event is the Xiaomi Redmi 4A (in the image above). Being the cheapest, it lacks fingerprint sensor. The device runs MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and will be up for sale in Gold and Rose color options. It comes with a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display, and is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 308 GPU. Like the Redmi 4, the Redmi 4A also sports a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, 5-lens, PDAF, along with a 5MP front camera. For connectivity, it supports Hybrid dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, and Bluetooth v4.1. It weighs 131.5 grams and is backed by a 3120mAh battery.
