Facing the heat in the voice market after Jio's arrival and their free voice calling strategy, Bharti Airtel has been forced to offer unlimited calling at dirt cheap rates.

The Mittal lead telecom operator which has more than 25 crore customers in India, has started offering on net unlimited calls at a low rate of Rs 148 as special offer to most of the circles for prepaid subscribers.

The new unlimited calling STV is priced relatively low if we compare the new pack with unlimited on net offering from another low cost operator like Aircel. But this is still no match to Jio’s Rs 149 plan which offers unlimited on net as well as off net, local as well as STD, mobile as well as land line calls and free incoming in roaming.

Though Airtel is offering the unlimited on net voice offer as a special offer to select prepaid customers, we can expect that the operator would launch similar rates for all customers soon.

As voice business contributes more than 70% of the total revenues for incumbent operators like Airtel, there's a possibility that all these operators cut down on-net voice rates further and introduce similar unlimited packs to counter Jio's unlimited calling strategy to protect their turf in the voice market.
