After three years of selling its flagship handsets under the Moto X brand, Lenovo’s Motorola subsidiary is planning to change the brand names of the series with this year’s models. To simplify, the company has rebranded the Moto X lineup to Moto Z.

Motorola Moto X

It’s rather uncommon for the manufacturers to change the name of the lineups. However, previously HTC has done this. Having used the One brand since 2012’s One X, in 2016 the company named its new device as HTC 10. Sony made its Xperia Z to Xperia X series phones.

There will be two models codenamed Vertex and Vector Thin, which will be  will officially named as Moto Z Play and Moto Z Style respectively. Similarly, in the US, Motorola Droid Maxx and Droid Turbo will also be replaced by Moto Z Style Droid Edition. Although this name change may/may not make impact on the customers, more surprises are awaited from Lenovo at the Lenovo Tech World show in San Francisco, starting on June 9.
