SK Telecom Becomes The First Asian Mobile Venture To Join LoRA Alliance

SK Telecom; a leading mobile operator in Korea, has decided to join LoRA Alliance that is widely known as one of the very few IoT consortia. It's the first time when an Asian telecom service provider has taken such initiative.

So far, LoRa Alliance has remained as a North Atlantic effort, but this step of SKT is likely to change the facts. Along with LoRA, SK Telecom has shown confidence in another internet of things (IoT) initiative named Sigfox. The other Korean company that has backed Sigfox is Samsung.

Even though, SK Telecom has widened its portfolio, yet, the primary focus is on LoRA. To create a consensus around the internet of things, SKT has also come up with an innovative term called "Internet of Small Things." The company defines IOST as the connectivity of small-sized things that process and measure simple information in an effective way.

As a new member of LoRA Alliance, SKT will look forward to developing a wide range of services that are applied to the LPWAN technologies, so that it can add value to its customers through the Internet of Small Things.

While talking to reporters, Staale Pettersen, President, LoRA Alliance stated, "We are glad to welcome Korea's largest mobile operator SK Telecom in our family." It's a great step by SKT and will motivate others to focus on IoT and learn to use it in the coming days.
