Facebook has been constantly working on evolving the user experience around its services. It has just announced that it will now be bringing in video calling functionality for the iOS and Android users of its Messenger application. The first wave of countries to get the update will be Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, UK, US and Uruguay.

Facebook video calling

The other parts of the world will get the feature in the coming months in a phased manner. Voice calling had already been available and now it has been joined in by video calling. There are over 600 million users of the Facebook Messenger and the company is claiming that its service will be high quality and reliable. Users on iOS can freely call the ones on Android and vice versa.

To use the service, you need to tap of the top-right corner in the chat window and start using it. With the video calling coming in for the Messenger, it is only a matter of time when WhatsApp (which is also owned by Facebook) gets to work on the same too. Facebook is trying to eat into the share of services like FaceTime from Apple, the popular Google Hangouts and our very old Skype with this.

The edge that Facebook has over its competitors is that it will offer all that a consumer needs in a single place and the user won’t require different applications for undertaking different tasks.
