We are at the brink of the New Year and discounts and special offers are pouring in from every direction. With the impending launch of Reliance Jio in the first and second quarter of 2015, every operator is busy in upping their game and one operator that is at the forefront in this regime is RCOM. Reliance communications has been taking every possible measure to ensure that it doesn’t lose its market share in the form of subscriber base through port outs once Jio commences commercial operations.

Reliance Mobile Launches Talk STD and Talk LOCAL Prepaid Plans

In the past few months RCOM has launched one of its kind offers like the Zero plan for CDMA phones, device bundled 3G data offerings with HTC handsets, pan India roaming free plans and the recent Rs.177 for 2GB 3G data with unlimited whatsapp, facebook and Twitter usage.

This time it has launched a long duration EVDO data pack for its CDMA subscribers, the pack comes with a denomination of Rs.2015 and a validity of 3 years (1095 days or 36 months) and the benefit of 1GB EVDO (3G like speeds) per month which works out to around Rs.56 for 1GB data with one month validity.

The unused data will be carried forward to the following month until the validity of the pack. Post consumption of free usage, the user will be charged at base tariff 10p/10KB. The plan is usable in Pan India roaming on Reliance CDMA network.

Through long duration plans like this and ‘zero plan’ RCOM is trying to ‘Lock in’ its subscribers and prevent them from migrating to competitors networks, thus ensuring steady income and increasing the gross ARPU (Average revenue per user). This along with the ongoing effort of expanding HSD coverage to a Pan India scale by upgrading to EVDO Rev.B upto 14.7 Mbps in non 3G circles and bridging the gap between 2G and 3G tariffs are the strategy currently being employed by RCOM to maintain its lead in the Data market share since as we all know, data is the future of telecom.
