The govt owned MTNL and BSNL which often attract the wrath of the consumers for their unruly customer care and almost nonexistent customer support seems to be on the brink of extinction. BSNL which was once the most extensively connected telecom network in the nation and most sought after too.

Department of Telecom (DoT) is taking a candid look at the options to close the doors of BSNL and MTNL as a part of Governments efforts to deal with heavy loss making Govt units.

Reports from Reuters revealed that on Monday cabinet secretary Ajit Seth had called a meeting to discuss the course of path it would take with respect to the 10 state owned firms that are renowned for loss making. The total losses for the year 2013-14 have escalated to 245 billion rupees.

Simultaneously DoT is encouraging the merger of BSNL and MTNL in a bid to minimize the losses. A report from Economic Times said that DoT is evaluating the options of delisting MTNL from the BSE and merging it with BSNL.

We would love to know what you think about BSNL and MTNL should they be given another chance?
