In a Reddit AMA session, a OnePlus official has confirmed that they will drop the invite-only system to buy their device in favour of pre-orders. Due to limited manufacturing, OnePlus wasn't able to organise a traditional sale system for the OnePlus One smartphone. With invite-only system, the company provides invite codes to limited number of forum members through which they can buy the device. After they buy their OnePlus One smartphones, each of them get three new invite codes which they can share with anyone, so on and so forth. The company had plans to switch to pre-orders system starting September but the plan has been delayed and looks like they will put the smartphone up for pre-order starting October 2014.
“We are working on a pre-orders system, we were initially aiming for September but it’s been slightly delayed, hopefully we’ll be ready to launch it in October.”
