The Delhi High Court has issued a contempt notices to Idea Cellular for alleged violating an earlier directive. The notices were issued for allegedly offering 3G services to new customers in circles where the GSM service provider did not have licences.
Earlier this year DoT had moved the court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against the "wilful and deliberate" disobedience of a judicial order passed on April 12. The April 12 order had restrained the company from offering 3G services to its new customers.
Idea Cellular has also issued a statement citing “No new 3G subscribers have been added in the 3G seeker service areas,” “Idea Cellular confirms that as per its compliance affidavit dated 18th April 2013, it continues to be in complete compliance with the order of the Hon’ble Delhi High Court dated 12th April 2013 as regards 3G ICR, and no new 3G subscribers have been added in the “3G Seeker Service Areas” of Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, North East, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. In fact, the company continues to lose existing 3G subscribers in these 3G seeker service areas since the date of the Court Order.
