Mobile Banking services in India get more universal as National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has rolled out National Unified USSD platform (NUUP) on BSNL and MTNL's GSM network.
Now just dial *99# from your handset of any make and avail banking services from 23 banks as USSD works with GSM only, this new mobile banking service will be available on GSM networks, not on CDMA networks.
You don't have to send a SMS or access internet to use this service. A very basic phone will give you access to your bank account via USSD. As you dial *99# first time on your mobile, it will ask for 7 digit MMID (mobile money identifier).
Check your bank to get MMID after entering MMID the service will link customer's bank account with his mobile number. Currently daily transaction limit is Rs 5,000 per customer.
UPCI is working with RBI to bring other banking services for eg balance enquiry and mini statements under this service the service is free of cost to customers, but NPCI is paying the telcos 25paisa per transaction to promote mobile banking.
