TRAI Got Maximum Complaints Against Airtel, Vodafone & Reliance in 2011-12

India’s leading mobile service provider Bharti airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Communications (Rcom) are once again on top when it comes to their Mobile Service users complaints related to Call drops, network congestions, Billing & Tariff related issues and activation of chargeable VAS without explicit consent of the customer.

According to the information given by Minister of State for Communication and IT. Mr. Milind Deora’s in Rajya Sabha, in last one year telecom regulator TRAI has received the maximum complaints against Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance. Total 1165 complaints were received against Bharti Airtel, followed by 654 for Vodafone and 647 against Reliance.

Besides, TataTele Services (Tata Docomo GSM and Tata Docomo CDMA) had 438 complaints and Idea Cellular 326 complaints.

Out of total 4133 complaints received during 2011-12, there were 466 and 165 complaints against PSUs BSNL and MTNL for basic telephone service (wireline) included fault repairs and response time to the consumer for assistance, respectively.

All above complaints has been forwarded by TRAI to the concerned service providers/telecom operators for appropriate action/resolution.

    I am using Airtel Prepaid and Postpaid connection, don’t know how it becomes the country’s largest telecom service provider. The main issue with Airtel is with its Network, there is no network in indoor areas where other services are working excellent even tata docomo who’s network was pathetic when launched but now it is very good with mobile internet also, but airtel being the oldest and maximum consumers still its network is very very poor, its customer service is also too bad, they hang up calls, keeps on mute and disconnect while transfering to seniors. Since past a year even after continously calling and complaining in airtel’s customer care, issue is still the same, they are saying that they have optimised and installed booster in my location but still the problem is same, there is no network in indoor and outdoor network is also not so good, if the network is poor making calls and using mobile internet is nearly impossible… Airtel should do something about it, or else there are many other service provider in India and also number portability is another option for it.

    I have an airtel post paid connection with mobile number 9866221928. On 08.01.2013 I approached airtel Visakhapatnam office and submitted a request for conversion of my post paid connection to pre paid connection along with all the required dockets to one of staff members sitting at counter number 1 (as per the information I got, her name is Ms. Triveni).
    She told me that it would be changed in 3-5 days, but it didn’t. Hence, I again went to the same office on 15.01.2013 and since, she was on leave Mr. Raju had attended me and told that conversion was not yet processed and he would forward the same immediately, unfortunately the story was same and nothing favor was done.
    Again, I visited office on 18.01.2013 & 19.01.2013 but got the same kind of replies.
    Finally I have visited airtel office on 22.01.2013 and when the result was same I personally met the branch manager and she told me that the case would be resolved by the same day’s evening, but I am sorry I found no response or no action from their end till now.

    Vodafone do not care any suscriber’s Complaint & also Vodafone do not take any action against their outlets , dealer or etc… becoz I complaint against an outlets of Vodafone but I did not get any possitive result. My complaint mentioned below.
    I am Santanu Das , S/O Late – Sukumar Das of Narendrapally , P.O. – Chakdaha , Dist. – Nadia , West Bengal , Pin – 741222 , I took a Vodafone Post paid connection (9593525000) from Raghunath Telecom Proprietor Sri Santanu Ghosh of B.C.Road , P.O.- Chakdaha, Dist.- Nadia , West Bengal , Pin – 741222 ,my connection activated on 30/07/2012 , I also subscriber of BSNL prepaid & Idea Prepaid service , I took this number for my special personal member & also I kept this number very secret but after 5 (five) days Santanu Ghosh owner of Raghunath Telecom shared my number & my personal details to this mobile number (9733543396), then my number conveyed to many so I have lost my privacy , then I phoned to Mr. Santanu Ghosh proprietor of Raghunath Telecom at about 7.20 pm on 4/08/2012 let me know that why u shared my number to others then he answered to me that he bound to shared all number of Vodaphone to above this number . Then I complained to all Vodafone Complain cell against him to gave some evidence . I think it is a criminal offence. Vodafone complaint cell also confessed that he has done a criminal offence but steel Vodafone company did not take any action against him.
    I have been frustrated to complain against him but I did not get any satisfactory result yet.
    I am submitting some information that if you check call record of Santanu Ghosh owner of Raghunath Telecom You can understand that I am 100 percent right from my end .
    1.Santanu Ghosh (Proprietor of Raghunath Telecom) Convey my personal details to send a sms to 9733543396. Or maybe others No. of Shri X Within 6.40 pm. To 7.15 pm.on 04/08/2012 .
    2. I called to Santanu Ghosh Owner of Raghunath Telecom Number – 9735666234 that how he identified my details then Santanu Ghosh confessed to me that he shared my number to above this number through sms . at about 7.20 pm on 04/08/2012. I told him that I will complain against you means Raghunath Telecom
    3. Santanu Ghosh owner of Raghunath Telecom phoned to me & said please do not complain against me at 7.30 pm on 04/08/2012 & also said that I shared all the number of Vodafone to x means 9733543396 if he want .
    NOTE : Please check the above mentioned call records you can understand all the things about this matter . I want a impartial judgment .

    Hi,

    I want to bring attention towards the reliance mobile service provider.

    From the past 10 days, i am very much upset with this network , in every 2 days , unwanted packs are getting activated my number and balance is getting deducted without any confirmation/knowledge. in the past 1 week i have register my complain to reliance many times/posted comment on reliance facebook wall,more over their customer care number its very hectic to reach out.

    every time they are promising it will never happen again but again in 2 days they start deducting money.

    Please take action against this un-ethical buisness reliance is doing with their customer and revert my money back.

      mee to had same problem with my two reliance numbers-GSM and because of this i have ported one of my number to tata docomo and the other one i have stopped using .its a useless network .pls share this message to the maximum and let the people understand about reliance

    We are aware how Airtel the first Mobile operator of the country charged customer in the beginnng ,incoming. outgoing both for talk and SMSs as well etc.,Only after the entry of the BSNL after more than 5 years only the things have changed and now all the operators are bound to cut their tariff finally mobiles have become commonmans friendly.But still private operators are dong gimmicks in billing which is NOT YET ALL TRANSPARENT and nobody will answer you straight about excess billing.Now the BSNL is slowly pushed to RED year after year and once it disappears from the field again the old anarchy will rule .The public should ensure that the BSNL remains in the field to check mate the greedy telecom operators so that the tariff will remain cheaper.

    I am not an idiot and not poor but still Reliance people have deducted charges from prepaid mobile when the phone was switched off. When the SIM is in purse and not in Mobile, nobody can subscribe to cricket commentary. After long fight with Reliance, they accepted their mistake but again on next week they deducted the amount. Finally they lost one customer which will keep on adding if they behave like this

    i had portable docomo to vodofone they gave 10paise scheme for an just 1month and i had enjoyed after i recharge 27 for msg booster . they get that plan back and now they chargin 60 paise per call its really a eye wash. and they not attending the customers calls. i have been called from my friend mobile also but they are not attending..

    IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO TAKE BSNL OR MTNL CONNECTIONS. EVEN THOUGH SOME INITIAL PROBLEMS FACES WITH THESE PSUs THE SERVICE AND BILLING SYSTEM ARE VERY REASONABLE AND TRANSPARENT. SO BSNL/MTNL IS ALWAYS EXCELLENT COMPARED TO OTHER PRIVATE OPERATORS, THEY ARE ONLY BUSINESS MINDED PEOPLE.

    It is not required for the mobile users to know about the anatomy and physiology of the mobile instrument,it is sufficient if they know how to use for their limited requirement.The poor people use it for their livelyhood and they cannot leave it at home and go to work for their children to play with it. Majority of the telecom operators be it no.1 or no.10 tell cock and bull stories to justify their deficiences instead of accepting and trying to rectify it.

    Just I don’t understand that why you are not accepting the truth. You can know the value of mobiles to the poor people by reading the stories of 108 emergency ambulance service.Also the same mobile provides loads of information on crops,monsoon,pests,fertilizers, free calls to the agriculture department toll free number etc..Also they are the only means of communication for the people in far flung areas since most of the PCO’s and Post Offices are shut down leaving them no option.Even in Kenya, poor people got bank accounts to save their money and learns to transfer through sms. Its your hypothesis that large number of complaints are due to the poor people and better throw that foolish thoughts out.

    The complaints against the private operators service will be much more as the subscriber do not know as to where they should complain and thereby several complaints remain silent and wait for the problem to get redressed in the normal way.Whereas in the case of the PSUs they are well aware whom to complain initially and whom to complain if it is not settled at the bottom level and they know that they can even write to the Minister at Delhi.Had the customers are aware that they can complain to the TRAI against any operator including private operator then the true figures will come out.Government and the TRAI SHOULD PUBLISH IN THE NEWS PAPERS AND LOCAL MEDIA THAT the public/telephone users can complain to the TRAI about any complaint against any telecom provider then the correct and true pictue will come out

    Generally people have a notion that the services by the PSUs/Govt organisations will not be good.But it is now amply clear that the pvt organisations are no more exception.Rather BSNL and MTNL have been performing very well in spite of the restrictions that they have compared to pvt telcos.I appeal the citizens of INDIA to support PSUs for a stable prospering INDIA.Support PSUs,they take care of your requirement.

    Most of the people use mobile without knowing about all the features. Also most of the poor people give their mobile to their children for playing. The children may press some keys and try some commands which will activate VAS services. What will you say for this?.

    When eating the food, atleast think about the farmers and stop wasting the food. This does not require farming knowledge.
    Try to accept the fact rather than simply criticizing.

    Airtel is probably one of the worst i have experienced. I can list the major issues i have faces
    - Billing, I request for increasing of credit limit and they transfer the security deposit.
    - MNP, they cancelled my connection even after i submitted my documents 3 times in their office.
    - Cust care, is piece of waste, they DO NOT listen neither read mails, just randomly send a default set of responses like machines.

    The problem was less when only EDUCATED PEOPLE were using mobiles. The problem became more when the low class / slum people started using mobiles without even knowing how to customize and VAS awareness.

    If you cannot drive a particular vehicle, you don’t. The same way. If low class / slum people do not know how to use / customize mobile phone(s), better not to use them. The sales of 3rd class china mobiles and remade china mobiles (like karbonn, g-five, nokai etc) entered India is because of this kind of people. Idiotic slum peoples.

    If some people are internet illiterates, then they must be aware of the unknown VAS services and they must know how to deactivate it. Even if they do not know how to deactivate it, then they lose the qualities of using mobile.

    If they do not know how to say, let them say in this manner :
    ‘I just want to make outgoing and get incoming calls. I do not want any other services’.

    Can you prove that 100% mobile users in India know 100% about their mobile phone and network features?.

    SOME TIME AIRTEL PRESENCE AND APPELLATE DESK ETC ARE ALSO USELESS AS IN MY CASE I WANT THROUGH AIRTEL ALL CHANNELS NOT RESPONSE EVEN THEY DINT GIVEN PROPER RESPONSE TO HONORABLE DEPARTMENT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS AS WELL BUT MUST SAY THEIR HIGHER AUTHORITIES(CEO AIRTEL MPCG) DONE A GREAT WORK SOLVED DOCUMENTS RELATED PROBLEM IN JUST 4-5 HOURS FOR MNP NUMBER GIVEN BACK EXCESS SUBMITTED COPY AS WELL ON THE VERY NEXT DAY.

    There were 12 crore internet users in India as of 31st Dec’11 and 4 crore facebook users as of 31st March’12 according to Interndt World Stats (IWS). So the remaining 8 crore internet users were useless ??? And I’m not talking about overall mobile users in India when I quote the stats for a large percentage of mobile users are either uneducated or don’t log on to internet.

    ALWAYS ACTIVATE DND AND ALWAYS LOCK KEY PAID AS IN CASE OF VODAFONE AND IDEA, IF U WANA LIVE WITH PEACE .
    OTHER WISE THEY WILL ACTIVATE ANY VAS THROUGH USSD MESSAGE

    RELIANCE is a big thief… dont use reliance… use any other service except RELIANCE. They silently deduct 1 rupee from main balance after every 4-5 days. This is happening with all my reliance no. and my friends no. They auto activating VAS service without permision…
    So throw Reliance sim in gutter and use any other operator like BSNL
    BSNL is good except its CC.

    The airtel presence team on facebook/twitter is very good. I compliened today by 4 pm. & by 7 pm they called me & refunded by 8pm. For this issue I have been talking with 198 cc for the past 3 days. Great…

    The thing is in india most of the people still doesn’t know to use mobile phone properly…when they receive a call frm hellotunes for subscribing to it…And the customer without listening to it..will press the button…and will get charged…the same thing even iin service message…customer will get a link as download wallpapers for free..and when they click the link..they will get charged high amt as Rs 99…

    Based on my extensive experience with most of the telcos from 2005, I am offering all fellow readers some tips to get rid of unfair balance deductions & mental agony. Here they are:

    Aircel : Not so famous for such things. Though to be on the safe side, activate DND. But recently they have started a malicious campaign to non-DND customers. Some lady executive will call you from their marketing & sales team & tell you,”Sir there is an special offer for you, you are given free dialer tune for one month with 200sms/day pack. You are lucky winner, so you will get for free. NEVER ever fall in this trap. To get your ass safe, tell her you don’t want any offers, because she will never take your conscent before activating anything. She will keep you engaged in talking about the speciality of the offer, and activate it as if you have never rejected it. Customer care seems to be full of un-educated people, they don’t know anything. Twitter handle of customer care is lazy like a snail, replies two days after you make complaint, takes minimum one week to solve the smallest issue.

    Airtel : I have personally never faced anything, though many of the readers have complained here. But one thing that I have faced is if you surf the internet from your main a/c balance, you will never know when your balance is zero. If you carefully count the sent+received data, you will get a nice surprise. So as always, activate DND, and use a data pack always for internet. Customer care is so-so. But they have an ultra-efficient team called Airtel Presence, those who complaint here please just for once try informing them at twitter and see the result, I have personally 100% my complaints solved. Specifically talking, Airtel Presence is the best customer grievance solution team any operator has in India, count on my words.

    BSNL : More or less clear operator, if I forget the automatic caller tune activations. And if bad luck is your friend and you are wrongly charged, then God can’t help you. You will NEVER get back your money, they have the most precious gift of having the worst customer care possible in the whole world. Activate DND, all is well.

    Idea : NEVER dial the free quoted ussd numbers shown when you check the balance, or shown on your cell info display. They are NOT free. MUST activate DND if you want to retain your hard-earned money. Pathetic customer care, more pathetic twitter handle, blocks users who complaint there.

    Reliance : Activate DND the first minute you buy the sim, otherwise be ready to face the music. Pathetic customer care, but some times you do get lucky and get your money back! Twitter handle seems inactive.

    Tata Docomo : Good ads but service not to that extent. Activate DND as fast you can. Customer care is so-so. Twitter handle is active.

    Vodafone : No comments. Please. Please. Please…………………….

    For the first time,I’ve experienced the VAS activation issue.I have an airtel prepaid.For the past six months, I haven’t used my mobile much due to some reasons and yesterday I was getting some stupid cricket alerts.I have no Idea about what my balance would have been.So I called the customer care and I realized that there wasn’t an option to contact with the customer care rep, Only the stupid IVRS which doesn’t help me much.After some googling,finally got rid of it by some USSD procedure but I dunno how much they have deducted.Anyone know how to file a complaint?

    TRAI can’t do anything..these companies shall loot by every mean and they can’t be in loss..Read out my complaint to Reliance..the dacoit among the thieves…

    As I have written to your Nodal Desk earlier for quite a number of time..I am tired of writing the same again & again..Considering the same,I am providing you the tabular format of the misdeed by Reliance GSM service in Kolkata…I have raised complaints against the deductions…I am very much aware of the company policy and it gets reflected in each and every customer care(?) executives’ replies…I am surprised to see how these young boys & girls can prove you errant so coolly..I am being pressed (and had been in the past as well) to make a statement that I have indeed downloaded a CALLER TUNE at 4-50AM(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) in the morning against my number…Great training from a company like Reliance…Other biggies used to loot us by these means but never ever robbed again once the DND was activated…BUT RELIANCE is RELIANCE….the company has proved its ‘reliability’…I have stopped visiting Reliance Fresh and the name now irritates me…I was contemplating to take a 3G connexion and now it seems Reliance should be nowhere in the list..
    I don’t expect to get back the remaining amount without your intervention…Can you imagine the exact number of deductions in these mobile numbers?I think it has crossed the half-century mark….!!!!You can certainly check out the details..I am maintaining an exercise book dedicated to Reliance Telecom and it has already crossed 10 pages..!!!
    DND is activated in all the numbers..even then I am activating the VAS everytime…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Very bad from a company of stature & volume like Reliance..Please look into this matter bit strictly..

    In my opinion,RELIANCE should be at the top…I have been using the services of all the three culprits and have been a sufferer from all three..But after DND came into effect,Vodafone and Airtel have never deducted any balance..But Reliance is going strong as ever..Caller Tune/Ghiloo Service/Pichhe tera bamboo services are getting activated at 2-35 am/3-55 am/4-35 am…!!!!!!!!!This company should be wiped out from the country…

    Oh god vodafone in second ? ? False position . . Vodafone should be in top . . 3years back i stopped vodafone because of false deduction while using gprs . . They deduct more than 250 from my account . . Not refunded back . . I throw away my vodafone . . Now i have airtel and bsnl . . Both r good for me . . Airtel just for incoming and 3g data because i using airtel for more than 8years . . Bsnl is for its connectivity . .

    Useless TRAI, Goa mobile team, Since last one month Fatorpa near to temple mobile tower is down & no one are showing interest to restore the same.
    Almost BSNL subscribers ported out to pvt ops & also we heard that pvt operators offering commission on each (porting out from bsnl) connection to the bsnl staff so that they are not showing interest to restore this site.

    Those who are using Videocon facing similar type of problem.
    I will port out to Loop Mobile which offers Rs. 50/- rental plan and other free things.

    you are leaving one useless operator and going for another useless operator…go for reliance cdma or airtel gsm

    I like to add VIDEOCON also here ! At first they deduct balance by making any vas or false recharge offers ! And when u call 198 u will be connected but u wil be made to wait for 5mins then line wil be disconnected ! Same thing happens for two times every day then the automated machine replies “customer care officer busy try later !” in the third call ! And the same words follows all the time on that day ! The next day same problem starts with call waiting and disconnect and from the third call cc busy !
    I think they sit in a room and think a lot to loot like these !

    It is very important to see now,what steps will be taken by TRAI.but,TRAI should take some tough decessions to teach some lesson for this telcos.Else,it will be increase day-by-day.

    According to my opinion,I am agree with Mr. Amit Agarwal,that,Vodafone CC is serious about such complain but,the CC is worst in AIRTEL. I think,their behave also a part of their strategy.

    Uninor, Reliance, Tata Docomo all these companies deduct money, without any customer interaction, and In Reliance we don’t get any Activation msg, they only deduct Re. 1 in 3 to 4 days, Reliance users please check your balance u will definitely get this…!!

    I think TRAI shud once try a method to determine the actual subscriber base in each operator so that multisim fraudulent base which creates confusion in customers mind that the bigger one is better could be avoided as far as possible. My self also got confused with Airtel when i thought it is a good.but then i realised that Airtel and after that Reliance is also a looter then i am happy with BSNL since 2010. But still i am using all sim for 3g purpose but not for calling due to faulty deduction by subscribing to services without my knowledge and the deducting amount by saying you have subscribed to said service and now renew your subscription ……

    Well I am not surprised to see airtel on top of the list and vodafone following airtel. May be voadafone too is trying hard to learn the tricks being employed by airtel. However from my personal experience this is worth mentioning that while airtel customer care executives shamelessly refuse to credit back the amount, vodafone atleast agree to refund back the money if a complaint is made within 24 hrs (however I find this a bit ridiculous as sometimess it is almost next to impossible to connect to executives within 24 hrs as they block the customers and the only way to connect to them is through twitter). And when it comes to Reliance, they do not mind crediting the money if they find that money was deducted wrongly. Thumbs up to Reliance. But I am just wondering as to what action has been taken by TRAI on erring telecom operators as it is foolish to think that by forwarding complaint to telecom operators would solve the problem. This is high time that TRAI take some tough decisions and if TRAI fails in this regard then the the Hon’ble SC should take suo moto notice and ban the operators if required. We could survive without airtel, voadafone and other operators. Can not we ?????????????

    uninor is also deducting money without any alert what about that , recently they deducted 250rs from my account, even i know process to get back that money but what about the new and old customers . uninor is also indulged in having loot from public and uninor is taking money but not refunding if not requested.

    dont go by subscriber base,they are giving free sims to inflate subscriber base!

    complaint have given for past 6 years about call drop no coverage but no use…. ever month i will give 2, 3 complaints on airtel.. customer care people will tell, it will solve with in 48 hr but 6 year passed no use…. airtel have most sucking network in kerala…. even uninor has network in my place.
