Corning Gorilla Glass will be featured in Micromax Vdeo series of smartphones, according to a release from Corning Incorporated, the company that manufactures Corning Gorilla Glass for smartphones.

Micromax Vdeo smartphones are value-segment smartphones priced between Rs. 5000 to Rs. 10,000. The buyers of this segment smartphones spend a major portion of their earnings buying the device. Hence, they cannot afford to repair the damaged device. This is why the devices of these price segments need to be protected with the damage-resistant display such as Corning Gorilla Glass, clarified John Bayne, vice president and general manager, Corning Gorilla Glass.

Recently, an online survey was conducted among the consumers across four cities in India to understand the expectations and performance of the mobile devices. According to the findings of the survey, 58% people said that smartphone is the most valued possession they carry with them on daily basis. They also stated that the biggest worry is about damaging the device. Around 65% of respondents reported screen damage and 68% of people worry about dropping and breaking the display.

Around 1200 participants responded to this research conducted by ValueNotes Research.

For all mobile phone consumers, their device is critical. It is often the most valuable thing they carry on their person every day and something they use not just to communicate but, in many cases, as their primary access to information. We are thrilled that Micromax – one of India’s premier device manufacturers – has designed Gorilla Glass into its Vdeo smartphones to give value-segment users the protection that they not only need, but they deserve. This level of performance is not possible with other material options,” Bayne said.
