This plan was introduced by Jio much after the tariff hikes. If this plan was not there, the cheapest 5G plan would be the Rs 349 offering from Jio. Low-paying customers upgrading to a smartphone would not easily pay Rs 349 plan for 28 days. Thus, to let low-paying customers experience 5G, Jio likely brought the Rs 198 plan. This enables users to experience 5G, and Jio to keep earning more from its customers. Jio's ARPU (average revenue per user) reached Rs 191.5 after the tariff hike, which is only set to grow from here for the coming quarters.
