Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom service provider, recently unveiled its voice and SMS-only prepaid plans according to TRAI’s mandate. Now that all the private telecom service providers have unveiled plans in line with the tariff mandate, we will see what plans Jio is offering to its prepaid users in the voice-centric usage segment. We have already seen what Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) are offering in this segment, and it’s the turn of Jio now. Let’s quickly have a look at all the available options for Jio subscribers in the story ahead.
Jio’s entry-level voice and SMS-only plan starts at Rs 448. This plan includes unlimited voice calls and 1,000 SMS, all with a validity of 84 days. Additional subscription benefits include access to Jio Apps such as JioTV, JioCinema (non-premium), and JioCloud. This plan comes at an effective price of around Rs 5.30 per day.
2. Jio Rs 1748 Prepaid Plan – 336 Days
Jio’s near-yearly voice and SMS-only plan now costs Rs 1,748. The plan offers unlimited voice calls and 3,600 SMS with 336 days validity. Additional benefits include access to Jio Apps such as JioTV, JioCinema (non-premium), and JioCloud. Jio’s long-term plan comes at an effective price of around Rs 5.20 per day.
Reliance Jio had earlier removed the Rs 189 plan. However, it has now been restored. For some time, we can expect similar removal and restoration actions from the operator. The plan is now named “Affordable Place” and offers unlimited voice calls, 300 SMS, and 2GB of data. After consuming the high-speed data limit, the speed is reduced to 64 Kbps. Additional benefits include access to Jio apps such as JioTV, JioCinema (non-premium), and JioCloud. – January 31 Update
Attention: For Data Usage
Jio renamed these two plans from ‘Value’ plans to ‘Voice-only’ plans. Additionally, for users active on these two Voice and SMS-only plans, Jio ‘Data Boosters’—Rs 139 and Rs 69—which come with active plan validity, cannot be recharged on the account, according to JioCare. Jio customers who wish to use data can recharge with Data-Add-on Packs (Rs 11/19/29/49/175/219/289/359) that provide data with limited validity. We believe this is a fairly basic and expected change, with nothing to be concerned about.
As of this writing, there are no plans from Jio that offer unlimited voice with little data along with the plans. All the other plans come with per-day data or bulk data with respective validities. Hence, the only options left for voice-centric users are the above two plans or opting for JioPhone or JioBharat Phone to avail plans specific to such usage. Jio recently launched the industry-first JioSoundPay feature on the JioBharat device. So, you can also enjoy this feature for free.
If you are thinking of using a Jio number for voice-centric usage, Jio offers only the above two voice and SMS-only plans. The other choice is opting for a JioBharat Phone. However, both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea offer a range of plans in the voice-centric usage segment. You can read more about them in the stories linked below.
