- Xiaomi may choose high-end MediaTek 5G chipset for the Redmi K30
- Redmi K30 and Redmi K30 could launch in early 2020
- Redmi Note 8 Pro has changed the perception towards MediaTek in the industry
Xiaomi Redmi K30 is already confirmed to be in the works by the Chinese company, but we’re not sure about the launch date. A new report now says the Redmi K30 will come powered by a flagship MediaTek chipset along with 5G support. The success of Redmi Note 8 Pro in global markets and the Chinese market is making the partnership between MediaTek and Redmi even stronger. Xiaomi took a risk by choosing Helio G90T chipset for the Redmi Note 8 Pro and it paid off very well as the phone is probably the best gaming device under Rs 15,000 right now in India. By choosing the Helio G90T, Xiaomi also managed to add other important features like liquid cooling, HDR display, IP52 rating and so on to the Note 8 Pro. The Redmi K30 will come with 5G support and MediaTek already has a 5G chipset in the flagship SoC segment.
Redmi K30 May Have MediaTek’s Unnamed 5G Chipset
The information regarding Redmi K30 using a MediaTek chipset comes from Digital chat station who is a Weibo user. Redmi already confirmed the K30 would have 5G support and punch-hole display, similar to the Galaxy S10 series of phones. For the unaware, MediaTek already announced a 5G chipset with 5G modem built right into the chipset. The 5G chipset from MediaTek is built on 7nm manufacturing process with Cortex A77 cores and Mali-G77 GPU. To recall, ARM announced the said cores and GPU back in May this year and they’re the powerful ones from the house of ARM right now. That said, MediaTek is yet to name its 5G chipset.
Qualcomm is yet to release a top-tier chipset in the mid-range segment, after the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 series which the Redmi K20 uses right now. This could be the reason why Xiaomi is looking to choose MediaTek’s 5G chipset for the Redmi K30. Furthermore, the upcoming Redmi K30 may well be the cheapest 5G phone to launch in China till date when it becomes official next year.
For the unaware, Xiaomi co-developed Helio G90T chipset with MediaTek and it’s the reason why we have seen only the Redmi Note 8 Pro using it so far despite all the positive reviews for the smartphone. Maybe other brands will make use of the Helio G90 on their smartphones, but not the Helio G90T, at least for a little period until the exclusivity ends. We’re not sure whether this is the case with the MediaTek 5G chipset which we may see on the Redmi K30. Maye Xiaomi will use MediaTek 5G on the Redmi K30 and flagship Qualcomm SoC on the Redmi K30 Pro.
Xiaomi Redmi K30: What We So Far?
The Redmi K20 series was launched just a few months ago and they reached the Indian market in July this year. The Redmi K20 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset and it’s the only phone under Rs 30,000 with the said SoC. The Redmi K30 will have 5G support and there will be dual punch-hole display similar to the Galaxy S10+.
For now, all know about the Redmi K30 is the 5G support and probably MediaTek high-end chipset. The phone may feature a 64MP quad-camera setup like the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In other news, Xiaomi is all set to launch the Mi CC9 Pro with 108MP Penta-camera setup and it will arrive in global markets as Mi Note 10.
