The Indian smartphone market is a hotbed for OEMs presently and everybody wants a share of this pie. Barring the global giants, there are some OEMs which are not as popular and don’t get attention equivalent to some of the well renowned brands. Today we have one such device with us from a company many wouldn’t have heard of. We have with us the Phonemax Glam 5 which retails for Rs. 4799 on various e-commerce portals.

Before we jump to the unboxing and first impressions of the smartphone, let us take a look at what it has on offer:

Phonemax 5 specifications

  • 5-inch IPS LCD display, 960 x 540 pixels
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB)
  • 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera, 2-megapixel fixed focus front camera
  • 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, dual SIM, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS
  • 2,000mAh battery

The smartphone has a rich retail package and we’ll have to give extra brownie points to Phonemax for it. The Glam 5 comes with a pre-installed screen guard, a pair of headphones, charger with USB cable and a flip cover. Finding a screen guard and flip cover for a not-so-popular device would have been difficult but Phonemax has taken care of the same.

Phonemax 1

To start off, the display is nothing much to write home about. The resolution of 9h60 x 540 pixels just doesn’t cut it and you can easily notice the pixels the moment you run any graphic intensive application.

The body has a glossy finish and easily attracts fingerprints. It runs an almost stock version of Android and you end up noticing a lot of lags the moment you open 3-4 apps in the background.

The placing of the power and volume keys is on the left side of the smartphone and it appears a bit out of place as people are generally used to the other way round.

You notice the red navigation keys instantly and they provide a decent feedback.
