Nokia 6.1 Plus Receives New OTA Update With August Security Patches and Stability Improvements

HMD Global is seeding a new OTA update to the Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone which was launched very recently in India. The update, which weighs 381.1MB in size improves the overall system stability of the smartphone. The Nokia 6.1 Plus arrived with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with July 2018 security patches, but after the latest update, the device will be bumped to August 2018 patches. Besides these, HMD did not include any new features with this OTA update and it’s more like a bug-fixing update. The Nokia 6.1 Plus already runs a well-optimised software as mentioned in my full review, but there were some quirks such as social media apps such as Instagram, Snapchat force closing error, sings of frame drops while browsing through multitasking.

Nokia 6.1 Plus is an Android One Smartphone, So Regular Software Updates

Like other Nokia smartphones released by HMD Global, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is also an Android One smartphone, which means that it receives monthly security updates from the company. Usually, HMD Global rolls out security patch update within the same month, but this time, the company has fixed the existing bugs as well. Later this month, the company will roll out yet another OTA update to bump the security patches to September 2018.

HMD Removes Hide Notch Option from the Nokia 6.1 Plus

A move by HMD which is annoying a lot of users is the removal of Hide Notch feature under Display settings. For some unknown reasons, HMD Global has removed the ability to hide the notch from the Nokia 6.1 Plus. For the unaware, the Nokia 6.1 Plus has a notched IPS LCD display, and the company earlier allowed users to hide the notch if they hated it.
