Reliance Jio, India’s leading telecom operator, added more wireline subscribers in October 2024 than any other internet service provider (ISP) or telecom operator. In the wireline segment, there’s no one that’s doing better than Jio, and that too consistently for a long time. According to the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) data for October 2024, Jio added 0.68 million new wireline users.
The second on the rank was Airtel, which added about 0.22 million wireline users, so a stark difference here. BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) lost 0.035 million users while Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 0.016 million users. Wireline is a tough nut to crack for the telcos as they need to lay more fiber and then also market the service to high or premium home users.

Jio with Largest Wireline Market Share in India
Reliance Jio has the largest share in the wireline market. The TRAI data for October 2024 said Jio’s market share in the wireline segment was 41.51% while Airtel’s, the second on the ranking had 25.25%. Jio is clearly ahead of its competitors by several miles. BSNL was the third-largest in the list with 16.14%. Vodafone Idea had a minor 2.24% share.
This indicates a growth opportunity for Vodafone Idea (Vi), which had recently been adding wireline customers at a slow pace regularly until recently. Reliance Jio is driving growth for wireline business with the push for JioFiber across the country. With a more competitive pricing than Airtel, and offering OTT (Over-the-Top) benefits, Jio is cornering a larger part of the market under its books.
