Airtel Apple Partnership

Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, has announced a collaboration with tech giant Apple. Under this partnership, Airtel will offer Apple Music and Apple TV+ to customers with its broadband and postpaid plans. Apple TV+ is an OTT (over-the-top) content platform for which the standalone subscription fee is Rs 99 per month. First time users can get a 7 days free trial. Apple Music costs the same on a per month basis in India. Apple TV+ has Apple produced TV shows and movies. Some of these titles such as Ted Lasso and The Morning Show have made a global wave.

While Apple TV+ will be bundled with broadband and postpaid plans, Apple Music will be offered to Wynk Music users. This means that with Wynk Premium users will also get Apple Music, which allows users to stream music and podcasts in the highest quality. The benefits are not available right now. Only the announcement has been made by the companies.

Airtel said that these benefits will be available to customers exclusively later this year. Airtel's Wynk Premium service is available for Rs 79 per month through the mobile app. This is cheaper than the Apple Music's subscription of Rs 99 per month. How exactly these benefits will be delivered to the customers is something we will have to wait and see.

This is the first time any Indian telecom operator is distributing Apple's entertainment services. We wouldn't be too surprised to see if Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) also follow up with similar partnerships. It would be in Apple's interests to partner with all the telecom operators and distribute its services to even a larger set of users in the country.

In another update, Airtel confirmed that it is shutting down Wynk Music: "We can confirm that we will sunset Wynk Music and all Wynk music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem. Airtel users will have access to Apple Music. Additionally, Wynk Premium users will receive exclusive offers from Airtel for Apple Music," Airtel said in a statement.
