During the 2022 5G Spectrum Auction, Adani Data Networks, a subsidiary of Adani Group emerged as one of the bidders of 5G spectrum. The company had clarified that it had no intent to launch commercial 5G services for customers. The Adani Group wanted to use the spectrum for internal operations. However, even after two years, the company has not met the minimum rollout obligations (MRO) set in place by the government. Thus, the group has been questioned by the Departmet of Telecommunications (DoT) regarding its plan of action, said a MoneyControl report.

For non-compliance with the MROs, the Adani Group has been paying penalties to the telecom department. As per the report, Adani Data Networks has not formally communicated its decision to surrender the spectrum to DoT yet, but is planning to do that. The government doesn't plaj to cancel the license of Adani Data Networks for holding the spectrum.
