Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run Indian telecom operator, has taken 65000 4G sites on air so far. Mind that these are powered by indigenous technology. BSNL is the only telecom operator in the country which is rolling out indigenous 4G sites. Now, BSNL's chairman, Robert J Ravi, announced that they have made close to 65,000 4G sites on air. This takes BSNL a step closer to its milestone or goal of reaching 1 lakh 4G sites using indigenous tech by mid-2025.

But the work for BSNL doesn't end only after deploying the 4G sites. It is equally important for the company to ensure minimum Quality of Services (QoS) benchmarks are met regularly. Thus, talking to ET, Ravi said that BSNL has deployed a "crack team" in every circle to ensure that it is meeting the QoS. Customer satisfaction will only come if the QoS are met and this would be one of the largest factors in adding new users for BSNL.

Ravi confirmed that one lakh 4G sites will give BSNL sufficient coverage. Then to increase the capacity of the networks, the telco has more plans. BSNL is deploying 4G using the 700 MHz spectrum, which will allow the company to provide a decent coverage experience to the customers. To take the experience a notch ahead, BSNL also plans to bring 5G networks for customers. For this, BSNL is already conducting tests in the Delhi circle. The rollout of 5G will only take place after one lakh 4G sites are rolled out.
