Unethical Practices by Reliance GSM Capping GPRS Speed at 64 KbpsAfter spending some valuable years Indian telecom market is now moving out from its early immatureness. Now our opera mini usage is reached as high as world’s 2nd largest.

Demand of data is increasing day by day. We already tested lighting fast speed from our 3G operators considering high tariff. Next the hype of 4G Lte is make our fingers crossed towards affordable stable wireless broadband in near future.

Our CDMA EVDO players are continuing themselves with their EVDO Rev B network upgradation .Data market is no doubt booming. But still now there is now some backlogging from our own national operator Reliance GSM. We found them with some unethical stuff that matters to us.

Recently we noticed that Reliance GSM is capping GPRS speed within 64 Kbps if you will recharge with their GPRS packs specially Rs.99 pack which indented to provide 6GB GPRS/EDGE data for 30 days. Facing some choking data transferring we confirm this matter by a small size application named MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application).

Here is a screenshot:

From the above screenshot is taken where there is a working EDGE enabled network which is supposed to deliver a average speed of 236.8 Kbps but Reliance capped this on 64kbps which is no doubt a damn slow on a 2G network. This condition is also occur when your 3G enabled mobile/data card is on Automatic mode and you started connecting internet under a 3G network which is caught on your mobile/data card when there is no 2G signal. Then n there your speed will be capped at 64 kbps. After that you will have to live with that tortoise speed or that kind of useless speed.

The following screenshot will explain this issue:

Our Take:

If a customer has recharged with 2G GPRS/EDGE pack, he/she has only the right to enjoy 2G like speed nothing else. But how can a customer tolerate this 64kbps speed which is extremely slow now a days if we compare to 2G EDGE.

BSNL, Idea Cellular etc provider has come up with a solution they both cap the speed of 2G GRPS/EDGE pack in 3G network at 128/256 Kbps speed so that a customer never faces any problem but they never cap speed in 2G network with 2G tariff.

What your take on this move by Reliance do share your views comments will be appreciated.
