COAI Predicts Complete Overhaul of Transit Systems as a 5G Use Case

The telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, however, are already on the task of conducting field trials. Not only this, but they have already got their hands on the requisite spectrum which is needed to start relaying 5G services and this has already happened in the month of March.

Highlights

  • Predictive maintenance updates would also be possible
  • Other 5G use cases will include healthcare and interactive education
  • The people would be able to get live updates about their transport

COAI transit systems 5G

The fifth-generation network technology in India is still a few years away. The telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, however, are already on the task of conducting field trials. Not only this, but they have already got their hands on the requisite spectrum which is needed to start relaying 5G services and this has already happened in the month of March, earlier this year. Recently, we also saw the demonstration of 1 Gbps and above speeds by the telecom companies. Not only the companies, but the other stakeholders like the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is also bullish on the rollout of 5G as it would create really impressive infrastructure to support other activities and business. On this front, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) which represents all the big telcos of the country has put out a tweet explaining a possible use case.

COAI Explains Effect of 5G On Transit Systems

COAI’s new tweet highlights the use cases of fifth-generation network technology when it comes to transit systems or the transport industry. We all know that 5G’s main features include a high throughput, which basically translates to heavy bandwidth and more speed, and very low latency means there is a gap of almost zero microseconds in the information transmission. Such a use case is especially beneficial for the public transit system. Regarding this, in a new informative video, COAI has listed that the 5G technology would be helpful in reliance bus service, faster public transit data on mobiles, access to real-time data on the trip, smart urban transport solutions, and predictive maintenance alerts.

Complete Overhaul of Transport Possible With 5G

The high bandwidth and low latency of 5G network will allow the users to be updated about the location of their public vehicle or if they are waiting for a transit option, they will be able to access real-time updates about it very easily thanks to 5G. Also, the users will have the option of sharing their own location among other features when they access such transport, or even if they are in their own vehicle. It’s worth noting that the companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel are already testing other use cases like education, healthcare, and more and in a country like India, 5G would bring in much-needed impetus for a complete overhaul of public transport.
