BSNL Makes Major Change to SMS Benefits of Postpaid Plans

BSNL has made a much-needed change to its postpaid plans. BSNL, which offers limited SMS benefit with its postpaid plans has modified the benefit to match the private telecom operators. BSNL's postpaid plans priced above Rs 399 will now provide 100 SMS per day for the entire rental period, while the plans priced below offer 100 SMS for the rental period. This move from BSNL could be to counter the private telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio who are also providing 100 SMS per day with their postpaid plans. However, it's disappointing to see that BSNL is offering 100 SMS per day with just the postpaid plans priced over Rs 399 and not with every postpaid plan.

At the moment, we can confirm that BSNL has made this change in Chennai and Tamil Nadu telecom circles. BSNL has silently made this change to the postpaid plans in the said circles and the changes became effective from August 1. Having said that, the change must have been effective across all the circles where BSNL has its operations.

In the past, BSNL did not offer 100 SMS per day with any of its postpaid plans. Even the premium Rs 1,525 postpaid plan offered 100 SMS for the entire rental period. That being said, this new change comes as a welcome move from the company.

Of late, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has been making many changes to its postpaid plans. Starting July 1, 2018, BSNL began offering unlimited data with all the postpaid plans, meaning users will get an after FUP speed of 40 Kbps.

Under Rs 500, BSNL has two attractive plans of Rs 399 and Rs 499, which offer benefits on-par with private telecom operators. The Rs 399 plan gives a user unlimited voice calls without any FUP limit, 30GB of data and 100 SMS per day for a month. The Rs 499 postpaid plan from BSNL, on the flip side, gives the same unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day benefit along with 45GB of 2G/3G data.
