HMD Global is now pushing the January 2018 security update to its flagship Nokia 8 smartphone. The Nokia 8's January update weighs 97.3MB, and HMD has started rollout in the European countries. Our Nokia 8 Indian unit is yet to receive the update, so it may take a couple of days for the company to push the update to the Indian market. However, if you're using a Nokia 8 in India, check for the update manually by heading over to Settings>System Updates section as the update might be released for Indian Nokia 8 units anytime.
Apart from the January 2018 security patch fixes, the update doesn't include anything new, at least as per the changelog of the update. The Nokia 8 is currently running Android 8.0 Oreo with December 2017 security patch fixes. To be noted, it was among the first batch of smartphones to receive Oreo update last year.
HMD Global is doing a great job when it comes to software updates, until now. Soon, the Nokia 8 may receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update too, maybe the Finnish is planning for an early February release. At the moment, only Google Pixel and Nexus devices are running 8.1 Oreo.
Another thing to notice is that Google India is yet to roll out the January 2018 security patch update to the Google Pixel 2 in India. Yes, you heard it right. There was news earlier this month about Google posting factory images to the Android Open Source forum. Later on, Google released OTA update too, but the Indian Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users haven't received the update yet, which is underwhelming. If HMD manages to release the January update for the Nokia 8 in India in the next couple of days, then Google India should provide an answer for the delay of the update.
