Lenovo-owned Motorola launched its Moto C Plus in India just last month as a slightly updated version of its sibling, the Moto C. The Moto C Plus improves on features like RAM, camera, display resolution, and most importantly the battery. Although Lenovo claims to offer the latest software, premium design, and expandable storage, the Moto C Plus stumbles when it comes to some of its specs.
The other challenging factor is the competition the phone faces in the market against other budget smartphones, one of them being the Yu Yunique 2. The Yu Yunique 2 was launched in India earlier this week and will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart. This Micromax sub-brand also claims that the Yu Yunique 2 offers promising features and it is safe to assume that it plays a strong contender to the aforementioned Moto C Plus.
Here’s a brief comparison between the two budget smartphones to see which one takes the cake.
Display and Design
The Yu Yunique 2 comes with a 5-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch resistance. The display also features the ‘4 Pinch Zoom’ and ‘2 Point Multitouch’ support. On the other hand, the Moto C Plus also comes with an equally average 5-inch HD display.
In the design aspect, the Moto C Plus might not show off a premium look but it is offering great durability over form. The Yu Yunique 2 is no more impressive in the looks department, with its box-like form and round edges.
Hardware
Under the hood, the similarity between the Motorola Moto C Plus and the Yu Yunique 2 continues to persist. Both the smartphones are internally powered by a quad-core Cortex-A53 MediaTek MT6737 processor each, with a clock speed of 1.3GHz. Accompanying it is a Mali-T720 GPU in both devices to take care of graphics and multi tasking. The chipset is shipped with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage onboard.
Besides that, the Moto C Plus is available in a single storage variant of 2GB of RAM while the Yu Yunique 2 comes in only one option. The Yu Yunique 2 allows you to further expand the storage up to 64GB via a dedicated microSD slot and the Moto C Plus offers storage expansion up to 32GB via a microSD card slot.
Camera
To start off with, the Yu Yunique 2 packs in a decent 13MP rear camera with LED flash, autofocus, and multi shot. Also, there is a 5MP camera with fixed focus up front for shooting selfies and for video calls. The Moto C Plus, on the other hand, comes with an 8MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, autofocus, and LED flash on the rear. The device also sports a 2MP front-facing camera with f/2.8 aperture and front LED flash for good selfies in low-lighting conditions.
Software
The only killer feature that the Moto C Plus brings to the table is its stock Android experience. For a smartphone at the offered price, it presents a good deal with smoother UI elements and lack of unnecessary bloatware. Both the Moto C Plus and the Yu Yunique 2 run on Android Nougat 7.0.
Both the handsets come with similar connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, FM Radio, and a micro-USB 2.0 port for external file sharing. Both are dual-SIM smartphones that support 4G LTE connectivity.
Battery and Pricing
The Motorola Moto C Plus is backed by an impressive 4000mAh replaceable Li-Po battery and is available in colour options like Metallic Cherry, Pearl White, Fine Gold, and Starry Black. Meanwhile, the Yu Yunique 2 comes in Champagne Gold and Coal Black variants and houses an average 2,500mAh non-removable Li-Po battery.
The Yu Yunique 2 is priced at Rs. 5,999 and is exclusively available on Flipkart starting today, while the Motorola Moto C Plus has a slightly higher price tag of Rs. 6,999.
Verdict
The Moto C Plus banks on the combination of stock Android and stellar battery life. Regardless, with lesser price, better camera, and a higher storage option, the Yu Yunique 2 is the one to go for if you are looking to buy one of these two smartphones.
