Micromax's subsidiary, Yu Televentures is back into the game with the recent launch of Yureka Black smartphone. Yesterday, the company launched the Yu Yunique 2 smartphone with decent specs and price. The device costs Rs. 5,999, and is aimed at the Xiaomi Redmi 4A.
For the unaware, Yu Televentures is well known for affordable handsets, but was out of the game due to the resurgence of Xiaomi as an online brand in India. But Yu Televentures is now looking to compete with the same brand which spoiled its party back then.
The Yu Yureka Black is aimed at the Xiaomi Redmi 4 smartphone, while the Yu Yunique 2 competes with the Xiaomi Redmi 4A. Will the Yunique 2 take revenge by outsmarting the Redmi 4A in the entry-level segment? Let's find out.
1) Design and Display
Both the Xiaomi Redmi 4A and Yu Yunique 2 has a plastic body and boasts of capacitive hardware keys for navigating through the phone. Neither of the phones has a groundbreaking design, and we can't expect the same for the asking price.
Coming to the display, both the phones have a 5-inch HD display, but Yu Yunique 2 further has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Xiaomi did not mention the protection used on the Redmi 4A though.
2) Hardware
The Yunique 2 is powered by the 1.3Ghz MediaTek MT6737 quad-core chipset, whereas the Redmi 4A has a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset, with a quad-core CPU. Both the phones are mated with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and have a microSD slot for storage expansion.
The Redmi 4A wins the race with a powerful processor, and it can even handle graphics better than the MediaTek MT6737 chipset found on the Yunique 2.
3) Camera
The Yu Yunique 2 and Xiaomi Redmi 4A both have a 13MP rear camera, paired with an LED flash. Up front, both the phones have a 5MP selfie camera. That said, both the phones don't offer LED flash for the selfie camera.
4) Software and Connectivity
Xiaomi's Redmi 4A comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based MIUI 8. Xiaomi will release the MIUI 9 update for the Redmi 4A in coming days, which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat.
On the flip side, the Yunique 2 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, which is a good thing for a budget smartphone. The Yunique 2 comes on top in this segment.
5) Battery
The Redmi 4A has a 3120mAh battery, while the Yunique 2 ships with a much smaller 2500mAh battery. The Redmi 4A would definitely deliver better battery than the Yunique 2. Nevertheless, it's a major letdown for the Yu Yunique 2.
6) Conclusion
On paper, both the smartphones offer similar specifications, but the Redmi 4A comes on top with a better processor and big battery. On the other hand, the Yu Yunique 2 runs on the latest Android OS but has a smaller battery.
So, if your priority is the battery life and a good performer, then the Redmi 4A should be your option. If you don't care about the battery life and want the latest Android iteration, then the Yunique 2 should be your option.
