7 Star Digital and Airtel Have the Best Average Internet Speed in India: Netflix

Following its tradition, the world’s leading video-streaming platform Netflix has released the monthly ISP speed index for April 2017. According to the data released, 7 Star Digital has the best monthly average internet speed in the country. The network’s average monthly speed is increased from 2.28Mbps in March to 2.69Mbps in April.

That said, the growth in the average monthly speed brought the 7 Star Digital to the number one place from third place. This is also the first time 7 Star Digital secured the number one spot.

It’s worth noticing that the India’s leading operator in both the mobile and broadband space- Airtel stands second on the list with an average speed of 2.60Mbps, down from the previous 2.61Mbps. Following Airtel are ACT Fibernet, Spectranet, and Hathway with average speed of 2.42Mbps, 2.34Mbps, and 2.26Mbps.

However, there’s no place for Reliance Jio in the list for some unknown reasons. Also, Reliance Jio topped the TRAI download speed table, and it will be a big missing name in the list.

“India’s 7 Star Digital saw speeds increase by 0.41 Megabits per second (Mbps), increasing its average monthly speed to 2.69 Mbps, up from 2.28 Mbps in March. The increase helped 7 Star Digital rise three spots to claim the No. 1 spot in India for the first time,” said Netflix in its blog.

Further, state-run operators MTNL and BSNL are standing in 12th and 13th positions delivering a speed of 1.34Mbps and 1.14Mbps respectively. The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance essentially means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
