Earlier today, Bharti Airtel announced that the company wouldn't be charging for roaming services in India from April 1, 2017,. The company will be making India a roaming free country and the services include free incoming and outgoing calls, SMS, and more importantly free roaming on mobile data as well.

No one expected this one was coming from the India's largest telecom network and the primary reason for this huge decision by Airtel is due to the seemingly increasing craze for Reliance Jio and its roaming free services across the country. Reliance Jio's Chairman, Mukesh Ambani announced that their service would cost the same wherever you go in India, and now Airtel is following the same suite.

Previously, Airtel used to offer free roaming on data, but there was a catch. If you have a data pack recharged with your number, there won't be any roaming charges applicable. However, if you don't have a data pack and surf the internet while on roaming, then you will be charged more than the standard data rates. Even if you are on a particular data pack, there's a case of you being charged.

Even if you're on a particular data pack, there's a case of you being charged for data. For example, your Airtel network connected to Vodafone or any other operator in India while travelling and in this scenario, you will be charged from your main balance, irrespective of you being on a specific data pack.

But, that's going to change after April 1, 2017. Airtel won't be charging any extra amount for recharge-less internet surfing, and that's a big thing for Indian consumers. So, Airtel will be charging the same price on Pan India basis, and there will be new recharge plans coming in as well shortly or before 31st March 2017.

That's a significant step taken by Airtel, and the company is also offering free incoming, outgoing calls on roaming as well. Previously, there used to be some booster packs for making the incoming roaming calls free for postpaid users and prepaid users, there should be a minimum balance to receive a call, and that's going to change now.

With this huge step, Airtel users from April 1 won't be bothering about recharging data packs when they step out as they will be charged on the base rates. Did you like the Airtel's new move? Let us know in the comments section below.
