After posting standalone loss of 718 Cr during April-June quarter, MTNL has now revamped all its broadband plans in Mumbai circle and now lets the subscriber pick between two alternatives at the same tariff point, one can either go for higher speeds coupled with lower pre FUP data quota or opt for lower speeds coupled with higher pre FUP data quota.
In the above table for example, the entry level pack '600-2M' priced at Rs 600 will now offer 12 GB of data at 2 Mbps speed then unlimited data at 1 Mbps speed. While for those who prefer speed over data limit can select another pack '600-8M' which comes with 8 Mbps speed till 6 GB then unlimited data at 1 Mbps speed. New and existing subscribers can also choose pack's ranges from Rs 800 to Rs 3000.
The PSU telecom unit which is concerned about its shrinking market share of broadband subscribers in their two metro circles is trying to take timely steps to prevent losing its subscribers to private local ISPs. We hope these revised broadband plans can help the struggling telco to get a few new subscribers in the coming days. But if Jio enters the market with super cheap Gigafiber plans with much higher data limit, MTNL would surely be in trouble to be able to sustain with such plans.
