Bharti Airtel has become the first telecom service provider to kick off 4G service trials in Visakhapatnam, an imperative stepping stone towards making it a ‘smart city.’ From now onwards, all the Airtel customers in the city can upgrade to 4G data services at 3G prices.

In order to take things forward, Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, CEO-Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Bharti Airtel, and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh met and discussed the future possibilities. Vijayraghavan also invited Mr. Naidu to try 4G services in the state.

Once the regular data limit is over, users will be charged 50P/MB up to Rs. 500 above the rental.
Airtel has upgraded its data services to 4G in 23 cities so far, and plans to double this number by the end of this year. The cities where 4G service trial is in progress include Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Vellore and Visakhapatnam.
The management of Bharti Airtel is likely to announce the names of other cities where it wants to initiate 4G services in the near future.
