With data services contributing largely to the company’s revenue, it aims to have the first person advantage by expanding its 3G network in the rural areas.Of the 3,400 BTS sites in the Punjab and Haryana telecom circles, 1,600 are already on 3G and the company is targeting to increase this number to 2,000.

Mr. Nipun Sharma, head of mobility business unit of Tata Docomo for Punjab, Haryana and Himachal circles said "We are growing at 9.3% while the industry growth in the region is 9%. The growth in data users for our customers is 78% as compared to 55% for the entire telecom industry. Realising that data is fast becoming the growth driver, we have decided to expand our network to enable faster streaming by turning more sites into 3G"

He said, “In the next 60 days, we will expand our 3G coverage in 60 towns of Punjab, where we already cover 100 towns, with 3G network. In Haryana, we will expand this to another 30 towns from the 150 towns at present.” He said the network expansion would not only enhance the customer experience but also enable them to enjoy premium services at reasonable prices.Customers can access services like video calling, mobile TV, video on demand, full-track downloads, HD games, etc., on their handsets.
