Oppo R5, the company's thinnest smartphone with a waistline of just 4.85mm thin, is now available in India for Rs. 29,990. The device features a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset, a 13-megapixel camera, 4G LTE connectivity, Color OS (based on Android 4.4 KitKat), and a 2,000 mAh battery. Unlike some other Chinese smartphone offerings, the Oppo R5 will be available on various offline and online stores, and the pre-orders for the device will start from January 1, 2015.
This phone has been developed with the end user in mind. We used cutting edge manufacturing techniques to create a phone that fits perfectly into the users’ hands, and that feels incredible. The frame has been forged nine times and then finished by hand to give a perfect sheen and feel. It has a quality that is not available anywhere else in the industry. The R5, like the rest of the R series delivers a truly stylish, exquisite and distinctive design and will continue to delight our customers with its innovative yet practical functions.
- Mr. Tom Lu, CEO, OPPO India
The device sports Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage space, but it lacks a microSD card slot. There's a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and 'VOOC Rapid Charging' technology, which can charge the device up to 75% in just 30 minutes.
Built with first-grade steel and designed with a beautiful micro-arc frame to make the entire device smooth and strong, the R5 is manufactured to fit your hand like a glove.
The device is thinner than the Gionee Elife S5.1, but not as thin as the recently released Vivo X5 Max. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus had some issues due to its thin body and soft aluminium structure, resulting in frame bends under pressure in certain cases. In spite of being such a thin device, Oppo claims that the R5 is quite strong due to its first-grade steel and micro-arc frame.
