NTT Docomo, a mobile service provider based out of Japan which thrives for smarter living, together with Docomo and the Chinese giant Huawei tasted success in their demonstration of how LTE can be successfully deployed over the unlicensed spectrum of 5GHz. The unlicensed spectrum is currently used in many countries across the globe for wireless LAN networks.

The LAA (Licensed-Assisted Access) tests are being carried out in Beijing. This technology will aid in providing auxiliary access to LTE operator network. The indoor test revealed that LAA can work in 5GHz bandwidth translating into a cell capacity of greater than the IEEE 802.11n which is usually the traditional specification for LAN.

Ryan Ding, Executive Director and President of Products and Solutions for Huawei said "We are pleased to see successful joint field results on deploying LAA in partnership with NTT DOCOMO. Huawei is committed to helping operators to provide end-users with abundant mobile broadband experience by utilizing core LTE technologies such as LAA in spite of limited spectrum resources. We will continue to work with NTT DOCOMO and contribute to global standardization efforts through these joint research exercises."

These efforts will help in Standardization of LAA which has a great potential for densely condensed data. Docomo is a key leader when it comes to donning a main role in industrialized standardization.
