Internet video to TV doubled in 2012; To Increase fivefold by  2017: CiscoGlobally, Internet video to TV will continue to grow at a rapid pace, increasing fivefold by 2017, a study by networking giant Cisco said.
According to Cisco's Visuals Networking Index (VNI) forecast (2012-17), Video-on-demand (VoD) traffic will nearly triple by 2017. The amount of VoD traffic in 2017 will be equivalent to 6 billion DVDs per month.

Internet Traffic: On Internet Traffic in India, the good news is that India has the fastest internet traffic growth globally and is expected to have 348 million users by 2017, up from 138 million in 2012, the VNI forecast said. Out of 348 million total internet users in 2017, there will be 155 million fixed Internet users (excluding mobile-only) in 2017, up from 104 million in 2012. IP (Internet Protocol) traffic will grow 6-fold from 2012 to 2017 in India, a compound annual growth rate of 44 per cent.




Mobile Data Traffic: Globally, mobile data traffic will increase 13-fold between 2012 and 2017 at a CAGR of 66 percent however in India, mobile data traffic will grow 60-fold from 2012 to 2017, a compound annual growth rate of 127%. Indian mobile data traffic will grow 4 times faster than Indian fixed IP traffic from 2012 to 2017.

Devices: In India, there will be 2 billion networked devices in 2017, up from 1 billion in 2012. PC’s will account for 48% of IP traffic in 2017 and Portable devices like smartphones and tablets will contribute 40% to IP traffic in 2017. TV's and machine-to-machine (M2M) modules will contribute 10% & and 3% IP traffic respectively.

Broadband Speed Evolution: In India, the average ‘broadband’ speed will grow 3.5-fold from 2012 to 2017, from 1.9 Mbps to 7 Mbps, the report said. The average ‘mobile connection’ speed will grow 25-fold from 2012 to 2017, reaching 2,462 kbps in 2017, it added.

Wi-Fi from Mobile Devices: The study reveals that India will witness 3.3-fold higher Wi-Fi speeds in 2017 from 2012, increasing from 1.8 Mbps to 6 Mbps.
